POLICE in Dangamvura are hunting for the remaining suspect to solve a litany of rape cases that dogged the high-density suburb recently in which the criminals allegedly forced-open doors at night and raped women and girls. The high prevalence of the rape cases in the suburb prompted Officer-in-Charge at Dangamvura Police Station,
Chief Inspector Jonathan Chigede and officers from the Victim Friendly Unit to embark on an awareness campaign informing residents to be wary of the rapists.
One of the suspects, Fanuel Shlunzani was subsequently arrested and hauled before the courts facing five counts of rape and a burglary charge.
He was remanded in custody.
Manicaland deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Muzondiwa Clean, said the hunt was on for the other suspect.
“These criminals had terrorised women and girls in Dangamvura. They operated at the night and opened doors to several houses and raped unsuspecting complainants.
“Police officers are hunting for the last suspect and we believe he will be arrested soon,” he said.
The alleged rapists had sent many into a panic mode in the high-density suburb.
From the way they operated, the criminals studied their target before they hit.
They avoided houses with men around and targeted those they knew very well that they were women occupants only.
