RAZA HAPPY AS CHEVRONS COMPLETE MISSION IN STYLE

ZIMBABWE captain Sikandar Raza says his men completed their mission when they won the ICC T20 Africa Regional qualifiers with a dominant show in Nairobi.

The Chevrons finished top of the round robin tournament with 10 points to secure a place at next year’s ICC T20 Africa Region World Cup qualifiers

“When we came for the tournament, we did not come just to qualify for the Regional qualifiers but to win the tournament and I am happy that we have managed to do so,” said Raza.

The Chevrons booked a place at the ICC T20 Africa Regional qualifiers in style after finishing the tournament unbeaten.

Zimbabwe will proceed to the Regional qualifiers together with Keya, who finished second in the sub-region B qualifiers.

Having already secured a place at the Regional qualifiers Zimbabwe went all out to maintain their unbeaten run at the tournament. The Chevrons completed the 100 percent winning record with a 61-run win over Kenya yesterday at Nairobi Gymkhana Club ground.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to bat first.  It was not to be a perfect start for the Chevrons as they lost two consecutive wickets in the fourth over with the dismissal of Brian Bennet and Dion Myers.

Bennet was dismissed for 13 off 10 balls while Myers was dismissed for a duck from the next delivery.

Two balls before the end of power-play, Zimbabwe suffered another blow as Tadiwanashe Marumani was sent back to the pavilion for 14 runs. With the threat of a low score, Zimbabwe managed to dig deep into their batting line-up as Ryan Burl put on a player-of-the-match performance by scoring 61 runs off 43 balls.

His fine effort was supported by skipper Raza who scored 27 runs off 28 balls.

Clive Madande came in with a contribution of 17 runs while Tashiga Musekiwa scored 14 runs as Zimbabwe posted a competitive total of 163 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

Zimbabwe bowlers showed some quality and class as they bowled out the hosts for 102 runs in 19 overs.
