A WOMAN has been granted a five-year protection order against her boyfriend after accusing him of threatening her with razor blades and hurling obscenities in the presence of their children.
The matter came before the courts after Silithumbe Mapedzeri sought legal protection from her boyfriend, Justice Dube, alleging persistent threats and abusive behaviour that had left her living in fear.
Mapedzeri said Dube frequently intimidated her and used offensive language in front of their children.
“He threatens me with razor blades and shouts obscenities in front of my children. I am no longer living in peace,” she said.
She said the alleged conduct had caused her significant distress and made her fear for her safety.
Mapedzeri pleaded with the court to intervene and shield her from what she described as continued harassment and threatening behaviour.
However, Dube opposed the application and denied the allegations.
“I disagree with what she is saying. I did not threaten her in that manner,” he said.
Dube maintained that the couple’s problems stemmed from domestic disagreements rather than threats or violence.
“We only had misunderstandings in our home,” he said.
He said most of their disputes revolved around financial issues.
“Our misunderstandings revolve around finances,” said Dube.
After hearing submissions from both parties, the court ruled in favour of Mapedzeri and granted the protection order.
Under the terms of the order, Dube is prohibited from engaging in any conduct covered by the protection order, including harassment, intimidation or threatening behaviour towards Mapedzeri.
The protection order will remain in force for five years, and any breach of its conditions could result in legal action being taken against him.
