The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has been commended for its commitment to transforming people’s livelihoods by bringing electricity to the hard-to-reach areas across Zimbabwe.
The remarks were made by Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, while commissioning REA projects in Chikomba district on Thursday.
REA connected electricity to two business centres and three schools in wards 15 and 21.
“These projects will undoubtedly transform the lives of our people and empower our community,” he said.
“I would like to extend my profound gratitude to the Rural Electrification Agency for bringing light and hope to our rural communities. The installation of electricity in our local communities marks a significant milestone, improving livelihoods and strengthening families.
“This initiative will certainly enhance economic opportunities and elevate education services in Chikomba district.
“We are truly grateful for REA`s commitment to bridging the energy gap and illuminating a brighter future of our people.”
Nzuma project, located in ward 21, comprises four benefitting institutions, which include Chikasha Business Centre, Nzuma Primary and Secondary School and Nzuma Business Centre.
The project is a game-changer for the community, bringing reliable electricity to local shops and schools.
With 310 students now set to benefit from this project, there is anticipation of a substantial improvement in educational outcomes as well as enhanced economic opportunities for local businesses.
In addition, Chivese Project, located in ward 15, is directly supporting Chivese Primary school by providing reliable electricity.
The initiative will enhance the learning experience for students and enable the use of digital resources.
Ms Theresa Guyu from Ward 21 thanked REA for bringing electricity to rural areas.
“This shows that President Mnangagwa is walking the talk in terms of development and is fulfilling his promises to the people. Indeed, no one and no place is being left behind when we talk of development,” she said.
“I want to thank REA for a job well done. They were sent by authorities to bring electricity to the people and here we are today commissioning life-changing projects.”
