adminFORMER Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello feels the club need to keep close watch over star forward Cristiano Ronaldo following a recent dip in goal-scoring form. After starting the season with a flurry of goals, Ronaldo has seemingly gone cold according to his high standings, failing to find the back of the net in his last three matches and scoring just once since winning the Ballon d’Or trophy in early January.
Former Galacticos coach Fabio Capello, who was in charge of the La Liga side in two separate spells in the past, feels the team is being affected by Ronaldo’s recent performances, and has encouraged the club to monitor their star man more closely.
“It is an important matter that Ronaldo is not at his usual level,” Capello told Al Primer Toque.
“Toward the end of 2014, Madrid were already a goal up before the game even started because they had Ronaldo.
“This is no longer the case.
“Madrid’s medical staff should keep a close eye on him. He does not look 100 per cent match fit.
“Madrid should find out what the problem is, because this is affecting the team.”
Capello says the medical staff should keep close tabs on all their players, and backs the Portuguese super star to be back to his best soon.
“Madrid should be talking with their medical staff to discuss how each of their players are doing, including looking at blood tests,” he said.
“But Ronaldo is still an extraordinary player and I am confident he will get back to his usual best very soon.”
Despite a lack of goals thus far in 2015, Ronaldo still holds an impressive record of 36 goals in 33 appearances thus far this season, and leads perennial rival Lionel Messi by two in the top-scorer’s charts in Spain.
Ronaldo will look to be on target tonight when his side face Bundesliga outfit Schalke in their Champions League Last 16 first leg encounter in Germany. — Kick-off.
