Red flag raised over super league refs

THE Harare Super League leadership held a meeting to address complaints from clubs over the poor performance of some referees.

The indaba was chaired by league chairman Kevin Kanyama.

Each team sent its representative and three referees were present at the indaba.

The referees are being accused of failing to stamp authority during matches.

There is also a narrative that former PSL and Division One players are the ones who are failing to adjust their minds to the demands of social football.

Some referees feel these players demand special attention.

There was emphasis on the clubs to highlight the importance of discipline among their players since the league was getting media attention.

The teams were encouraged to accept defeat.

The referees also stressed the significance of levelling the playing field by appealing to the leadership to have well-marked grounds for the avoidance of controversial calls.

Some of the resolutions include a three-match ban for a straight red card, a season ban for fighting and a one-game suspension for two yellow cards.
