Reds owners to meet Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers’ future as Liverpool manager will become clearer this week when he meets with co-owners Tom Werner and John W Henry. The Americans are expected in the city on Tuesday and are due to meet their manager as part of his end-of-season review tomorrow.

Sources close to Werner and Henry have consistently played down suggestions Rodgers’ job is under immediate threat.

Liverpool finished sixth and missed out on a place in the Champions League.

Rodgers, 42, was appointed as Liverpool manager exactly three years ago to the day but admitted after the 6-1 defeat at Stoke on the final day of the season that his future was in doubt.

Speaking after that match Rodgers said: “I’ve always said if the owners want me to go, then I go.”

Rodgers came close to a first title win in 24 years in 2014 but endured a disappointing season this time around, with Liverpool failing to progress from the group stage of the Champions League and finishing sixth in the Premier League. — BBC Sport
