THE Sport and Recreation Commission board has confirmed the appointment of team managers and coaches to lead Team Zimbabwe during the African Union Region Five Under-20 Games that will be held in Bulawayo in December. The confirmation, according to the supreme sports body’s communications officer Tirivashe Nheweyembwa was on the proposals that were submitted by the National Sports Associations to the Team Management Committee in November 2013.
“An induction workshop for the technical team has been tentatively set for February 1 once all the logistical arrangements have been put in place.
After that each sport code will be expected to submit its technical plan complete with targets which will then be discussed with the head of technical Sebastian Garikai to ascertain the level of support that can be extended to each sport code,” said Nheweyembwa.
He said the technical plans will be guided by the previous performances of each sport code and the need to surpass the previous performance so that Zimbabwe can be uplifted from the eighth position that it attained in 2012 in Lusaka, Zambia.
The medical team which is led by Patience Maramba will comprise three doctors, two nurses, seven physiotherapists, two rehabilitation technicians and a sports nutritionist.
