THE Region Five Organising Committee has given Zimbabwe a thumbs up on its preparations for the December Under-20 Games to be hosted in Bulawayo. At a press briefing on Saturday evening, the organisation’s secretary-general Mvuzo Mbebe said they were impressed with what they had seen on the ground. He said his committee had visited all the facilities that were being spruced up for the games and were confident Zimbabwe would deliver successful games.

He said progress was going on well on infrastructure such as Barbourfields, White City and Luveve stadiums.

Mbebe said even at the City Pool work was progressing positively and was confident that at the Games Village, Hillside Teachers’ College major refurbishments would take place from November 15 when the institution closes.

“We have been here for a week and we are confident Zimbabwe will meet the deadlines that have been set. In a number of cases work is 50-70 percent done,” Mbebe said.

He was also delighted by arrangements for transport where police had given assurances that some roads would have to be blocked to allow easy access by the teams.

He said traveling from Hillside Teachers’ College to the furthest point which is Luveve Stadium would be within an hour.

Bulawayo is set to benefit from the legacy of the hosting of the games as facilities will be improved for the benefit of the city and nation.
