and the region will grace this year’s event.
Utho Minerals and Energy are organising the Indaba in conjunction with the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, and the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe.
The fourth edition of the country’s biggest mining event comes at a time when the sector is expected to grow by around 15 percent this year.
Leading minerals that were on a growth trajectory last year include platinum (41,1 percent), gold (38 percent), chrome (13,3 percent), coal (7,7 percent) and diamonds (3,3 percent). The theme of this year’s edition is: “Making it happen in the mining sector in Africa”.
Highlights for this year’s Mining Indaba include an overview of the mining developments in the region where the presidents and CEOs from various Chambers of Mines within the region will share ideas.
Speakers include Chamber of Mines Zimbabwe president Mr Winston Chitando, Ghana Chamber of Mines chief executive officer Dr Tony Aubynn and Botwana Chamber
of Mines chief executive officer Mr Charles Chiwawa.
Other speakers include DRC Chamber of Commerce chairman Mr Thiery Naweji Kankwala and Chamber of Mines Zambia general manager Mr Fredrick Bantubonse.
According to the organisers, an overview and update of policy developments in the mining sector in Zimbabwe, including the Diamond Policy and amendments to the
Minerals and Mines Act will also be discussed at this year’s Indaba. Zimbabwe’s banking and financial sector will also be on the agenda.
The Indaba will also discuss opportunities in the country’s mining sector with a showcase of various successful mining ventures over the past four years and elaborate on why Zimbabwe remains an attractive mining investment destination with prospects and opportunities.
On infrastructure, integration and development, the Indaba will highlight issues like the regional infrastructure integration, private-public partnershis (PPPs) projects in Zimbabwe and the region, expansion and sustainability of the power sector in Zimbabwe and the region as well as restructuring and recovery in the railway and road Infrastructure.
The Mining Indaba provides a platform for the exploration of mining and related opportunities in Zimbabwe, while simultaneously allowing delegates to widen their network in the growing industry.
The event also comprises comprehensive business matchmaking sessions and networking opportunities with global mining stakeholders and investors.
The event has traditionally attracted top decision-makers from across the continent and internationally from sectors such as exploration and mining companies, fund managers and private equity funds from Africa and beyond.
