Urban contemporary music, popularly known as urban grooves, has found a new official home. Every Thursday, the Beer Engine at Jameson Hotel in Harare plays host to the genre in a new concept that is set to cement the urban grooves movement while bringing together pioneers and upstarts in the genre.
Platinum Entertainment, the brains behind the three week old venture, says it has created what it terms “Urban Nite Concert” every Thursday in its quest to support and promote local music.
Businessman and Platinum Entertainment boss Spencer Madziya, is elated at the success of the first three weeks of Urban Nite.
“So far the response has been amazing and the support is incredible,” he said in an interview.
The first Urban Nite saw the performance of a resurgent Mafriq.
Last week “Dancehall Father” Shinsoman, Yoz and Russo belted it out and this Thursday the undisputed king of rap Maskiri, Arnold Gara, Mzimba and Noble Stylez will perform.
The concert will also be graced by other artistes supporting their counterparts and mingling with their fans.
“This movement is open to all urban music artistes and followers.
“We have also seen the Urban Nite concert launching various new single and albums from different artiste last week the new Nox-Yoz single was launched called Mafaro Chete,” explained Madziya.
Producer Russell “Russo” Chiradza and his stable This Is Records has also partnered with Platinum entertainment to help record and assist urban music artistes.
He is also the chief coordinator of the Urban Nite events.
