IN a chilling display of senseless violence, a life was tragically lost in Siampongo 3 Village under Chief Sinamagonde in the Lusulu area of Binga, Matabeleland North Province, after a 24-year-old man fatally stabbed a 32-year-old fellow villager with an Okapi knife following a misunderstanding after he was reprimanded for proposing love to his juvenile niece.

Khonzaphi Mumpande shattered the community when he fatally stabbed Manager Mwinde, leaving the village in a state of shock and disbelief.
Allegations are that on 26 December 2024, at around 6pm at Chitongo Business Centre in the Lusulu area of Binga, the now-deceased, Manager Mwinde, was in the company of Mumpande.
It is reported that Mumpande proposed love to the now deceased’s niece, a juvenile, in front of Mwinde.
Mwinde reportedly reprimanded Mumpande, advising him not to pursue juveniles when there were many older women available.
This reprimand did not sit well with Mumpande, leading to a heated argument between the two that escalated into a fistfight.
It is alleged that during the fight, Mumpande pulled out a knife from his trousers pocket and allegedly stabbed Mwinde once in the left side of his chest.
After the stabbing, Mumpande fled the scene, leaving Mwinde lying on the ground bleeding.
Mwinde sustained a deep stab wound to the left side of his chest, which tragically resulted in his death on the spot.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Mumpande and his subsequent appearance in court before Binga Resident magistrate, Victor Mpofu.
Mumpande was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to January 24.
