Residents hail urban water intervention

Glen Norah residents have hailed the Government for providing alternative potable water sources through drilling of boreholes to end supply challenges caused by the ineptitude of the opposition led council.

Yesterday, a borehole was drilled at Glen Norah C Extension through the initiation of Zanu PF local constituency candidate Cde Crispen Allen Magaya.

This was much to the delight of residents amid reports that women and girls had become victims of abuse while looking for the precious liquid during odd hours.

Three other boreholes are being drilled in the constituency.

A Glen Norah C resident Miss Anymore Hunda thanked the listening Zanu PF Government for championing development in the area.

“We have now gone 22 years without water as a result of incompetence by the Harare City Council officials. We thank Cde Magaya for initiating the increase of water sources. It was a major challenge in our area.

“The only way for sustainable development is through voting Cde Magaya so that development continues in our area. Even before being elected into office, he is already delivering,” she said.

Mr Johannes Chihweni Majongwe said the drilling of boreholes in the area would help ease water woes.

“All these years there was no development in the area. We are happy that now we will be drinking potable water,” he said.

“Residents here have been resorting to unsafe water sources and drinking dirty water. We are more than grateful that at least will receive potable water.”

Cde Magaya said Glen Norah residents had for the past two decades, battled poor service delivery because of the incompetence of council.

“As a youth, I decided to intervene to provide potable water for the residents.  This is just a temporary measure while awaiting to deal with the root cause. Harare is an urban settlement and under the leadership of Zanu PF, residents should soon be getting used to receiving tap water,” he said.

Cde Magaya said the suffering of the residents pushed him to lobby Government to support the drilling of boreholes.
