LAST month, Mabelreign Girls High School (MGHS) learners gathered to celebrate their cultural diversity.

The school’s annual culture day was marked by song and dance, as well as a display of traditional attire.

Among those in attendance was the school head, along with other staff members. Parents also showed their love and support by gracing the occasion.

However, it was the presence of an amazing artiste, Shumbakadzi, that made the event more exciting. The MGHS dance crew, known as the Stars of Tomorrow, stole the show with a spirited performance.

The on-point DJ kept the crowd dancing to infectious tunes.

Adding to the excitement, MGHS models captivated the audience with a dazzling performance, which earned them the title “The Dazzling Gleam Team”.

For them, the icing on the cake was the crowning of one of their own, Tadiwa Chipuriro, as Miss Culture MGHS 2024.

Aspiring models strutted their stuff under the guidance of the head girl, Nyasha Satumba. The head girl, who is also a public speaker and debater, played a key role in discovering and mentoring the models.

Joining her on the judges’ panel were Tatenda Tsaura, Rutendo Chiworeso and Deborah Nengere.

The judges stressed the critical role of diversity and cultural representation in the fashion world. They pointed out that cultural heritage is the brushstroke that brings out the uniqueness of individuals.

The Drama Club did not disappoint. Its performance, “Ngozi”, was captivating. The play served as a testament to the power of the arts in celebrating and preserving rich traditions.

The Musical Arts Department (choir) wove a harmonious tapestry of traditional songs from across Africa. Their voices blended seamlessly.

Intricate patterns and colours adorned the choir members’ costumes, adding layers of cultural significance.

The traditional instruments played further enhanced the experience.

The Art and Design Department transformed the event into a display of colours and creativity.

Stunning art paintings adorned the walls and stages, creating a visual feast that complemented the performances. We look forward to a more exciting culture day next year.
