IN a refreshing development, the Minister of State Sport and Arts Festival (MOSSAF) is back after a seven-year hiatus, with its launch set to take place later this month, Weekender Entertainment can reveal.
Formerly the Governor’s Trophy, the event in previous years was known for bringing scores of participants and stakeholders in the sports sector from various districts of Manicaland.
This revitalised edition will be upgraded and expected to be bigger and better as it now encompasses arts and culture, a development which prompted the organisers to rename it MOSSAF.
The official launch is scheduled for Mutare Hall with the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, officiating.
Manicaland Sport and Arts Development Committee Secretariat, Clifford Mujoko this week confirmed the development, saying preparations for the launch are underway, and urged participants and stakeholders in sports and arts sectors to come aboard and be part of the milestone event.
The festival is a premier programme showcasing the best local sport and arts talent to attract regional and global exposure.
It will run from ward, cluster, constituency, district and provincial levels.
“Manicaland Province is contemplating to bring together the sport and arts family to rebrand and implement the Minister of State Sport and Arts Festival (MOSSAF) 2025 edition.
“This festival was formerly known as the Governor’s Trophy before evolving into the Minister of State Tournament and most recently, MOSSAF, which includes the arts sector.
“The province last held this event in 2018, hence the planned revival. The project was established to support and enhance the Community Sport and Arts Club System, a programme by the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture which fosters on stimulating mass participation in sport and arts. The festival is a premier programme showcasing the best local sport and arts talent to attract regional and global exposure. It will run from ward up to provincial level.
“The event will be held on April 30 from 10am, and the 2025, Minister Mugadza will officiate at the event. The corporate world and development partners are therefore called upon to attend the launch for the cause of Manicaland,” said Mujoko.
Music and sports have a deep, intertwined relationship.
Music plays a central role in creating a carnival atmosphere, whether it is the national anthem before a game, the pump-up songs during a break, or the soundtracks of sports documentaries and commercials.
The use of music can enhance emotions, boost adrenaline, or calm nerves, all of which are crucial to both fans and athletes.
Both sports and arts reflect cultural values and societal trends.
Major sporting events like the Olympics or World Cup often feature elaborate opening ceremonies that blend music, dance, and visual storytelling, combining the world of performance art with the spectacle of international competition.
These cultural events highlight how sports and arts can come together to celebrate human achievement on both an athletic and artistic level.
