Returnee Protasho Kabwe sets his target

ZPC Kariba recently completed the capture of Mutare-born midfielder, Protasho Kabwe on a one-year deal and the player relishes chances of making instant impact on the domestic scene. Kabwe, whose contract with Namibian side Tigers FC expired at the end of June this year, said he was happy to be back home.

“It is good to be back home though I had a good outing in Namibia. I was a regular player and played all the games that my side featured in, but I have just decided to be back home and I have found a new home at ZPC FC. My target for the remaining games is to net at least 10 goals,” said an ecstatic Kabwe.

Kabwe, who is born from a family of soccer players, said that his two brothers, Joseph and Samson inspired him to take up the game.

“My brothers Joseph and Sam inspired me to be a soccer player. I would watch them play and I would tell myself that one day I will get there,” he added.

Joseph Kabwe, his elder brother and now based in the USA, played as a midfielder for the now defunct ZUPCO Mutare as well as the former Bulawayo giants Amazulu FC. Samson, his other elder brother, featured for Eric Rosen-owned side Motor Action.

Their sister, Berita plays for Tenax Queens as well as the Mighty Warriors.
Kabwe began his football career at La Sakubva in 2001 while doing Grade Seven at Chisamba Primary School in Sakubva. He played for La Sakubva for three seasons before moving to the capital city where he joined Division One outfit Harare United in 2004.

In 2008, Kabwe packed his bags and headed to Bulawayo where he joined Bulawayo giants Highlanders for two seasons. The following year he joined Twalumba FC which loaned him to Black Mambas for six months. He returned back to Twalumba and was given another loan spell at Motor Action.
