WHAT started as a dream born out of rejection is now fuelling one of the hottest fixtures in the Zifa Southern Region Division One.
The Hwange derby is about to explode!
Blackrock FC, formed 30 years ago by Tichaona Mufandaedza after he failed trials at Hwange FC in the mid-90s, are now ready to lock horns with the very club that once shut its doors on him.
“I didn’t make the cut at Hwange, so I decided to build my own team. It’s surreal that we now get to face them competitively,” said Mufandaedza, who once managed Chipangano.
This time, it’s not just another game. It’s a clash of pride, history and turf — and it’s happening tomorrow at Sinderella suburb, a low-profile football zone rising to the big stage.
Blackrock, the Cinderella story of Hwange football, have stunned the region with gritty performances, tight defending and a loyal home crowd that’s packing the stands every matchday. Under former Bosso and TP Mazembe midfielder Mthulisi Maphosa, they’ve punched well above their weight.
Hwange, sitting third with 27 points, are still chasing the title while Blackrock lurk in sixth with 23 points — and a game in hand. The stakes are sky-high.
Traditionally, Hwange derbies featured Makwika or Lwendulu-based clubs. But now, Sinderella’s boys are crashing the party and stirring up the heat.
Elsewhere, leaders Nkayi United face a tricky trip to Victoria Falls Herentals while Bulawayo Warriors and Mainline square off in Plumtree in another potential thriller.
From rejection to rivalry — Blackrock are out to rock Hwange in the ultimate grudge match!
