UNITED States-based gospel musician, Reverend Togarepi Chivaviro, has been nominated for the 2022 InterContinental Music Awards.
Chivaviro earned the nomination for his Kana Wakayambuka collaboration released in 2021.
The song has been nominated in the sungura category.
In an interview, Chivaviro said the nomination will boost his plans to go international.
“This is my first ever nomination for a global award and I am excited.
“It’s a big boost for us, we have several awards from back home, we have had several nominations and a couple of awards from the African continent.
“To be recognised and appreciated at the global stage is something awesome,” said Chivaviro.
The musician said he was a step closer to taking his music to bigger audiences.
“The song we entered also has a Sungura/Dendera feel and is a true representation of the Zimbabwean sound.
“These may not be the Grammys, but it’s a step towards that route. Such recognitions inspire us to do more and we are proud to spread the gospel across the world,” added Chivaviro.
The Los Angeles-based InterContinental Music Awards evaluates music entries from a global and ethical perspective.
A panel of judges, who are active industrial professionals and Hollywood music executives, conduct the evaluation.
Winners of the competition will be announced on July 31.
