Minister of Truth with Cde Jason Zhuwao
The Ministry of Truth always calls a spade a spade. So here goes.
Some legacies die natural deaths simply because no one dares to stand for the truth.
Fear is the major enemy of progress.
The Truth Ministry is fully behind the call by the youth to have a President Mugabe Day which will be a national holiday.
In Shona we say the mountain is ferocious to those who reside far away from it while its integrity is taken lightly by those who reside in proximity to it.
President Mugabe has already been honoured globally while Zimbabweans are still debating on whether or not a national day should be set aside for him.
It’s so shocking that such a basic and natural proposal should be subject of criticism or even debate.
If anything, the debate should be on why such a proposal has come so far into our Independence.
Even Britain’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Catriona Laing, has spoken glowingly about this treasure in our midst.
Her predecessor, Ambassador Deborah Bronnert, was quoted in the Australian media saying President Mugabe is to Zimbabwe what George Washington is to the United States.
Who is George Washington?
In case you didn’t know, he is an icon of America, the man on the US$1 note.
That is how Britain, which sanctions Zimbabwe, sees President Mugabe.
And how do some wayward Zimbabweans view President Mugabe? As a man who doesn’t even deserve a national day!
Former US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Charles Ray once said of President Mugabe: “The man has an encyclopaedia for a brain, any discussion with him is fruitful.”
Many others, from all over the world, have described this son of the soil as a legend and an icon.
President Mugabe is no longer just a Zimbabwean President or an African statesman.
He is the voice of all oppressed people across the world and through the ages.
He is a man celebrated by his enemies and yet his own scorn him.
Shall we repeat that a Prophet is not welcome and has no honour in his own home town?
We cannot afford ignorance of such magnitude.
The launch of the Fast-Track Land Reform Programme which redistributed farmland to hundreds of thousands of black families is but a recent example of the man’s vision, principles and commitment to the upliftment of oppressed people.
We are now proud owners of our land and for that alone we must have a Robert Gabriel Mugabe Day.
Western countries slapped sanctions on Zimbabwe. But President Mugabe has refused to compromise on a point of principle and so we soldier on as a nation.
Now, the current drought notwithstanding, we are starting to see the fruits of the land reforms as tens of thousands of families now make a viable living off their farms.
Since 1980, President Mugabe has sought to unite the nation and maintain peace and tranquillity.
His policy of reconciliation allowed functionaries of the brutal Smith regime, such as Roy Bennet, David Coltart, Tichaona Mudzingwa and Giles Mutsekwa among others, to even participate in national affairs.
Some of them were not only Members of Parliament but even sat in Cabinet at some point.
It would have been easy for President Mugabe to simply say no to them. It would have been easy to push through legislation to criminalise these people for what they did during the war.
But no, President Mugabe put national healing and progress at the forefront.
President Mugabe has long been a proponent of youth empowerment, of education and of creating a better citizen.
This is a reflection of his belief in an empowered African.
It’s long past time that we officially declare Robert Gabriel Mugabe Day a public holiday.
Further, Harare International Airport should also be named after him, as well as the National Sports Stadium.
We know that President Mugabe will never push for this. He is too humble for such.
Which is why we have taken it upon ourselves as youths to advance this agenda.
As the Ministry of Truth and the youth, we salute this gallant son of the soil, this light of the youth, this face of empowerment, our leader and our guide.
Long live President Mugabe. Long live the icon. 92 to us as Youth means 9 plus 2 which is 11.
