AWARD-WINNING South Africa singer and songwriter Ringo Madlingozi has left politics. The 60-year-old Joburg-based singer announced that he is now refocusing on creating music that will heal the nation.
Besides his musical career, he was also a record producer and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa. The Sondela hitmaker from Cape Town, Eastern Cape, posted on X (formerly Twitter) about his departure from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on Saturday, 13 July.
Ringo joined the EFF in September 2018, attracted by its policies and its commitment to fighting for the less fortunate in the country.
“I’m no longer active in politics. I will always love my brothers and sisters. My purpose to heal through my music will remain. I will die a fighter,” he wrote.
When Daily Sun reached out to him for comment, the musician said he didn’t wish to comment on this matter.
Ringo first rose to fame when he and his band Peto won the Shell Road to Fame contest in 1986.
Ringo later formed a group called Gecko Moon with Alan Cameron, a fellow Peto member.
