Road accident claims 10 lives

Ten people, eight of them relatives, were killed while 14 others were seriously injured when a kombi burst a tyre and collided head on with a double cab vehicle at the 303 km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo highway yesterday morning.
National police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said eight died on the spot while two more died on admission to Gweru Provincial Hospital. Eight of the deceased were in the kombi travelling to Harare for a funeral while six members of the Zimbabwe Scout Team were aboard the Bulawayo-bound double cab.
Gweru Provincial Hospital is handling the post-mortems.
The injured are also admitted at the hospital.
Gweru Provincial Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Fabian Mashingaidze said, “We received eight bodies and then two people died on admission. One patient is critical while four sustained severe injuries and nine have moderate injuries.”
When we arrived at the accident scene, police and the Gweru Fire Brigade were retrieving bodies from the two wreckages, with ambulances ferrying the injured to hospital.
