Road rehabilitation moves to high-density suburbs

The rehabilitation of roads in Harare has moved to high-density suburbs in line with Government’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

This development puts to rest some critics’ allegations that the intensified road rehabilitation works in Harare are only targeting access roads leading to the new Parliament building where Zimbabwe will host the 44th session of the Sadc Summit later this month.

On Friday, The Herald visited some of the roads that are being upgraded in Warren Park and Dzivarasekwa where works are already at an advanced stage.

The scope of work for the two projects include reconstruction and overlaying and are expected to be completed by early September.

When contacted by the Herald, Zinara chief executive officer, Mr Nkosinathi Ncube said Zinara is funding the two projects.

“Zinara is funding the Dzivarasekwa and Warren Park projects.

“Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felex Mhona recently highlighted that the Government will be moving to roads in high-density roads, and this is just the beginning of more works that are going to be implemented in the western suburbs,” said Mr Ncube.

He said Zinara is also funding other projects from across the country to improve connectivity and facilitate business.

“We are not only focusing on Harare but the entire country in line with Vision 2030,” said Mr Ncube.

“Harare projects are just more prominent because of the projects that are being implemented by the department of roads in the city, but we are funding various projects across the country.

“Our objective is to contribute meaningfully towards the attainment of Vision 2030.”
