PART of Seke Road is being resurfaced as rehabilitation works gather pace, with engineers from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development deployed across Harare to monitor ongoing road projects.
This comes as more and more roads and interchanges in and around the city are currently under construction.
Recently, the Government announced that the reconstruction and widening of the entire 66,5km Harare–Seke–Zvipadze Road was set to commence, starting from Harare Main Post Office to the Ten Miles area in Marondera rural.
In a statement this Monday, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development confirmed that the contractor was currently on the ground and attending to part of Seke Road, which has been in a dilapidated state.
“Surfacing works are progressing on the Seke Road Rehabilitation and Widening Project, marking another visible step towards improved road capacity, safer travel and enhanced connectivity,” the ministry said.
This development also comes after the rehabilitation of part of Simon Mazorodze Road, which has been closed from the Rothmans area to just after Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital in Harare, is also progressing well.
Traffic has since been diverted to alternative routes to allow for the works. The road is part of the Harare-Beitbridge Highway.
In an interview, the Deputy Director of Construction in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Virginia Mawere, said, “The Contractor is working on the northbound carriageway from Rothmans to Remembrance Drive. The Contractor has deployed additional resources to expedite the works in order to reduce the construction period.
“Bottlenecks on the proposed diversion routes have been identified and more police presence has been deployed there.
“The contractor just resumed works at this scale a few days ago so we are reassessing timelines; however, we are looking at the next three months for that section.”
