SCORES of passengers were harassed at Roadport in Harare on Saturday, with some being forced off a bus, by some rogue touts on a day of shame at the bus terminus.
The passengers had boarded a bus plying a new route to Mutare.
They were all forced to leave the bus.
One driver, who witnessed the ugly scenes, appealed to authorities to deal with these rogue touts.
“What we have witnessed today is very bad and we call for the perpetrators to be brought to book.
“They humiliated travellers as well as a bus driver as if they were the law themselves.
“The bus driver had the route permit but he was diverted to ferry travellers to Shamva as if they are the ones who control bus movements.
“We are appealing to local authorities to address this and make sure the culprits face the wrath of the law.”
When H-Metro visited the Roadport bus terminus, a number of passengers were being harassed and their luggage was being taken away from them and they were being forced into buses.
One of the courts, Tafadzwa Simbarasi, told H-Metro:
“We are investigating what actually transpired with a view to taking action against such touts.
“We encourage order at ranks as well as the safety of the travellers,” said Tafadzwa.
Police launched a nationwide blitz to rid the country of touts in an operation dubbed “No To Touts” in June, which saw a number of them being arrested.
