LOVE him or hate him, the urban grooves ‘bad boy’, Roki is no doubt a brand in his own right after scores of his fans jostled to get photos taken with him last Friday during their Mutare show at BarCode Nightclub (Raylton Club) for their latest Afro-pop single ‘Alleluya’ collaborated with Ex-Q.
The charming ‘ladies man’, Ex-Q also proved to be in a league of his own exuding his charisma with fans also lining up for photos after the show.
The show which ran concurrently with sungura maestro, Alick Macheso’s show at the The Platinum drew a full-house proving that indeed the urban grooves duo is now in a league of its own
Roki whose real name is Rockford Josphats and Ex-Q, Enock Munhenga, launched the Alleluya video in June. The top-notch video which was shot on high-definition was produced by Kenako Musik which is promoting the countrywide tour.
Already the video is proving to be a hit with over 70 000 views on YouTube in just two-months.
Apart from promoting their latest ‘Alleluya’ collaboration, Roki and Ex-Q individually played some back-tracks of their yesteryear hits that proved popular as fans sang along to some of the tracks.
Ex-Q said the journey had not been easy since they started in the music industry, but thanked fans for the support which keeps them going strong.
“I have got seven albums and the 15-track album I am about to complete at the end of August will be number eight. The journey has not been easy, but I always try to stay ahead of the game in the industry and maintain the standards.
“I, however, thank my fans out there because they keep me going and push me to be Ex-Q and do what I do best,” said the Musalala and Ndichakutevera hit-maker.
Roki who is always followed by controversy said bigger projects were in tow.
“We will not stop making the beat (music) and the sky is the limit. Roki fans out there should look forward to bigger and better projects coming out.
“I have big dreams in the music industry and want to be an international brand, so I guess people should just watch this space,” as he chuckled.
The two have been embarking on a countrywide tour to promote the Alleluya track, having performed in Masvingo.
Last Saturday they performed in Kwekwe, while today (Friday) they will be in Zvishavane and tomorrow in Bulawayo.
Famed Mutare-born, but Harare-based DJ Ash Styles whose real name is Nyasha Kada of Game Recognize Game was also part of the tour.
DJ Ash Styles who also has some radio slots on Star FM’s All Star Party drive time segment during weekends rose to the occasion last Friday and proved why he is highly recommended on the turntables in the club scene.
BarCode, which is one of the most popular up-market clubs in the city, has over the years hosted many prominent local celebrities.
The last function early this year drew the multi-award winning, DJ Stavo of the Ingoma hit-song which features South Africa’s Shota.
