THE Zimbabwe National Rugby league matches that were fixtured for this weekend in Bulawayo have been cancelled. All teams that were supposed to play matches away have cancelled their games due to financial constraints. NRL official Noddy Kanyangarara confirmed that all matches that were billed for this weekend in the city had been cancelled because teams had no money to travel.
“Teams are failing to raise funds to travel so this week’s games have been cancelled,” he said.
The affected games are a second round league top drawer match between city giants Matabeleland Busters and champions Old Hararians. Western Panthers’ match against Harare Sports Club billed for Hartsfield Grounds has also been called off.
Kanyangara said teams rely on sponsorship and this time finances did not allow them to travel.
Meanwhile, Old Georgians will be hoping to pick up the pieces when they meet Gweru Sports Club in a late encounter kicking off at 3:30PM while Mutare Sports Club will try and use home advantage to steal a win from Zvishavane Bulls.
