RUNDE Rural District Council has unveiled a massive housing delivery programme where it is targeting to service more than 1 300 stands this year.
The move is part of Government’s efforts to ensure decent accommodation for all. Council chief executive officer Mr Gorden Moyo told Sunday Business that the housing developments were being undertaken at Siboza Business Centre, Mabasa Growth Point and Musipani Business Centre.
“We have got our flagship housing project at Siboza, where we have partnered with a private land developer and we hope to have over 500 stands serviced there. We also have stands at Mabasa, where we are currently doing an environmental impact assessment so that once that is done we can then open up roads and do other servicing to pave way for construction. There is another project at Musipani where we have 360 stands that are on an approved layout.
An environmental impact assessment is underway and once that is done we can begin to open up services.”
Mr Moyo said apart from the residential stands, council was also servicing commercial stands and reached out to the business community to purchase the stands. Last year the local authority acquired construction equipment that includes graders and caterpillars, which has made servicing of stands more convenient and cost effective.
Demand for residential stands in the district is increasing with the housing waiting list now standing at 3 000.-@lavuzigara1
