BUSINESSWOMAN Ms Mandy Majoni has challenged her detractors who are feeding the media with misleading versions over the Edro Motors dispute to prove their claims.
Ms Majoni said she has for a long time been unfairly accused of things she was not up to and her good name being tainted and dragged in the mud by people desperate to have her evicted from Edro Motors.
Ms Majoni through Vicemast Services (Pvt) Ltd is the holder of a valid lease of Edro Motors, a property owned by Zanu-PF’s commercial arm ZIDCO Holdings. Her lease which The Manica Post has in possession is valid from May 2014 to 2019.
Since February 2015, Ms Majoni has failed to operate properly at the disputed property as some Zanu-PF provincial members have been disrupting her operations alleging that they had been sent by the party to evict her. However, the property is not managed at provincial level.
Ms Majoni said her detractors have been leveling a plethora of allegations which included that she is a girlfriend and relative of Mr Didymus Mutasa, she is a member of Zimbabwe People First party, she has set up ZPF offices at Edro Motors and that she is not paying rentals to ZIDCO.
The dispute over Edro Motors spilled into the courts of law after Zanu-PF provincial vice-chairman, Cde Joseph Mujati in conjunction with Cde Nathaniel Mhiripiri and Stanley Sakupwanya mobilised youths and women to seal off the premises for a month. Some property was vandalised in the process.
On March 15, High Court judge, Justice Phiri ordered that Cdes Mujati, Mhiripiri, Sakupwanya and their supporters, agents and anyone acting on their behalf should vacate the building with immediate effect. The order further stated that police must assist Vicemast Services in bringing normalcy at Edro Motors.
As per law, Cdes Mujati, Mhiripiri and Sakupwanya were given 10 days to oppose the confirmation of the order.
Ms Majoni said she would not fold her hands while being hauled over the coals. She vowed to take to task Cdes Mujati and Mhiripiri.
Ms Majoni said she was a bonafide Zanu-PF member and very active in her home area of Mhondoro-Mubaira. She also showed The Manica Post her party cards since 1980 up to date.
She further added that she played a crucial role in the victory of Zanu-PF in the Mhondoro-Mubaira by-election when she availed her family hotel Majoni Hotel at Mubaira Growth Point to be used for party activities.
“For a very long time I have been deliberately defamed in the media, but this time I will have to act. Very nasty things have been written about me without being given a chance to respond. Is that fair? The main character is not being given the right to reply.
“My reputation has been injured and who will clean my name. Today I am Mutasa’s relative and tomorrow I am his girlfriend so which is which?
“Yes, I know it is Mujati who is peddling these falsehoods and this time I will deal with him once and for all. I want him to prove that I am a member of Zimbabwe People First and that I have opened the party offices at Edro Motors. I want a date with him in court.
“Mujati and Mhiripiri are just abusing their positions in the party to harass and torment me. It is a lie that they have been sent by the party because Zanu-PF does not tolerate the closure of businesses and hooliganism. ZIDCO which offered me the lease is owned by the party so what are they saying?
“For your own information, Mujati is hiding behind the party. He is actually interested in the building and he is just using those innocent youths and women to push his personal agenda. He is struggling to run a bottle store in Chiware Village, but now he is directing his little energy to fight me. He is in for it I am not a push-over.
Ms Majoni alleged that Mujati was a former British South African Police officer and Mhiripiri was former Selous Scout member.
“They now want to import their Rhodesian tactics of running the country. I am not an easy target despite being a woman. I am not working with any youth from People First as alleged by Mujati and company. The only youth I am working with is Cde Nesbert Chasara who is district youth chairman in Ward 10, Makoni Central.
“I am Zanu-PF to the core and for their own information my father attended the Geneva Conference and my brother, Solomom Majoni was the first black Member of Parliament for Mbare in 1980.
“I am willing to work with party structures here the way I am doing in Mhondoro. If they want assistance in running party programmes, I am there to assist, not this way of blackmailing me,” said Ms Majoni.
Cde Mujati disputed allegations of being a former BSAP officer and having personal interest in the property.
“I was attested into police in April of 1981(Squad 9) and left as a senior detective and anyone who think otherwise can have sight of my certificate anytime. These allegations are tired. Mandy is taking this template from Didymus Mutasa. I never served in Rhodesia as alleged.
“I do not have a personal interest at Edro Motors and it is a fact that Mandy has not been paying rentals to ZIDCO. Can she produce receipts of rentals she has paid? If she can prove that to you, then I would be wrong. She is doing all this with the support of known provincial members who are fighting from her corner and that makes me more determined to pursue the matter,” said Cde Mujati.
Cde Mhiripiri was not reachable for comment.
