RUSAPE-BASED social soccer outfit Muriwo United is celebrating it’s 17 year-old anniversary by hosting an Africa Day Cup.
The tournament which is comprised of 8 teams is being hosted at Vengere Stadium and Vengere High School.
Participating teams are the host Muriwo, Scud 11, Makoni Public Service Commission, All Stars, Chipolopolo and Cracking Fathers’ from Mutare, Nyanga Legends and New Stars from Marondera.
Luke Mahoko, the team’s founding chairman said they are elated to be in the game for nearly two decades, using sport to promote wellness, physical well being, fight drug abuse and create business connections.
“This year marks 17 years since we started this club in 2008. We have gone through a lot and we are hosting this Africa Day tournament with local teams and our friends from Marondera, Mutare and Nyanga.
” We are using sport to promote physical wellness among our members. We don’t promote alcoholism that is why we utilise weekends and holidays to be active on the pitch burning calories.
“All the participating teams have players aged 30 and above as we don’t alllow youngsters to play social soccer but concentrate on professional game.The tournament is progressing on very well and there will prizes for the teams that finish first, second and third,” said Mahoko.
