adminseason clearly been fourth in the pecking order behind Bernard Parker, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Kingston Nkhatha, but he got his second league start on Tuesday against Amazulu and found the back of the net — his first official goal for Amakhosi.
Rusike was delighted by the effort.
“Getting a goal is good for me, good for my confidence. I have been understudying for Bernard (Parker), it’s been ages so it gave me a chance to get in there . . .
“We bounced back well (from the draw against University of Pretoria) and I’m happy for the guys . . . We are happy with the performance.”
The 22-year-old further highlights the quality at Chiefs’ disposal after Parker came off the bench to score a second on the night.
“He (Parker) also gets in and does the job. So actually you can see we’ve got 25 players who can do the job week in and week out,” he adds.
Rusike vowed to work harder after scoring the goal, which came in the 36th minute of the game. He told the club’s website that he was dedicating the goal to his father, who is not feeling well.
“It is a good feeling to finally get to score my first goal for the team. It feels good to give the fans something to cheer about and even more important that we won the game.
“I have been working very hard in the past couple of weeks and of course learning from my teammates in terms of anticipation and my movements. I am grateful to the technical team for giving me an opportunity to play. I am going to continue to work hard and grab every opportunity that comes my way.
Chiefs no. 21 was given time off by the club to attend to his father last week and missed the game against the University of Pretoria.
“My father (Philip) has been a pillar of strength for me since I started my football in the dusty streets of Zimbabwe.”
