In a move that seeks to diversify her music and attract more fans, Afro-fusion sensation, Rutendo Jackie, has upped her game by engaging more established artistes and regionally-acclaimed producers.
Jackie, who is currently riding high with a sing along Afro-fusion single, ‘Chawapihwa’ which features Sylent Nqo, has finished working on a new single which features talented musician and mbira player, Andy Muridzo.
The song is due for release before end of the year.
It appears the gods of music are smiling at her.
Jackie and her band Afro Blue Band now spends more time in Harare after capturing the hearts of various promoters in the capital city, thanks to her well-polished live acts.
For the past two months, she has been performing at joints such as Gava Restaurant, Jam Tree and Theatre in the Park, among others.
This Wednesday, she made her debut performance at Afropolitan Restaurant, Bar and Grill.
Asked if she had found a new base in the capital city, Jackie said she aims to continue working hard and win hearts across the whole country.
“I am loving the new challenge. I am meeting new fans who demand more from my performances, a development that has seen us outdoing ourselves on stage.
“Hard work is finally paying off and we will continue spreading our tentacles and breaking new grounds. The track with Andy Muridzo is almost done and we know our fans will love it. We are glad that people are coming through with positive feedback, especially on social media,” she said.
Jackie’s first ever Extended Play (EP) ‘Tsvimbo Nedohwe’ released last year, proved to be a successful experiment after she blended traditional and contemporary instruments to produce a distinct and crispy Afro-fusion sound.
Born Rutendo Jaqueline Ngoreta, the silky-voiced diva marked her entrance into the mainstream music arena with the release of her groundbreaking project titled ‘Love Me As I Am’.
The album carries tracks such as ‘Usandisiye’, ‘Kumafaro’, ‘Vabereki Vangu’, ‘Buyisa Nkomo’ and ‘It’s Your Love’.
Among her growing discography, she co-carved the song ‘KwaMutare’ on the ‘Love Me As I Am’ album.
On that song, she expresses her love for the beautiful Eastern Highlands which is endowed with majestic tourism marvels.
Rutendo is married and is a mother of two.
She aims to thrive in the male-dominated music industry and spread her musical prowess globally.
