The Grobler’s Bridge border crossing between South Africa and Botswana has been temporarily closed because of heavy rain and flooding, according to the Border Management Authority.
This important crossing is used for trade, especially by miners from the Copperbelt region, which includes parts of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as they move goods to the port of Durban. The closure is meant to keep everyone safe.
The Border Management Authority said, “After talking with our Botswana partners and discussing it with the Port Management Committee, we decided that closing the border for now is necessary to prioritize safety.”
Travelers and truck drivers are being asked to find alternative routes while the border is closed. The crossing is in the northern Limpopo province, which received a lot of rain over the weekend, raising concerns about road safety.
