TWO more passengers on the Harare-bound bus that overturned near Makhado in Limpopo Province, South Africa last week have died from their injuries, taking the death toll to seven.

It is reported that the driver of the Chihwa Bus travelling from Cape Town to Harare lost control along the N1 highway, resulting in the bus overturning and killing five people on the spot.

Twenty passengers were critically injured, while 41 escaped with minor injuries and have been treated and discharged.

Zimbabwe’s Consul-General to Johannesburg, Mrs Melody Chaurura, yesterday confirmed the additional deaths. The consular team on the ground had established that all the injured were Zimbabweans.

“Following the tragic accident, we sent a consular team to assist with the identification of the deceased, verification of documents, and tracing of the deceased relatives,” said Mrs Chaurura. So, it has been established that the deceased and all the injured are Zimbabweans.

“Currently, we are working on assisting relatives of the deceased with the repatriation process. The process is at varying stages.”

Four of the dead are men and three women. Their names will be published in due course.
