Sables chairman resigns

to the Sables committee revealed that Moyo was making most of the decisions without the mandate of the rest of the committee.
The committee, they said, was not pleased with the way he conducted business and he decided to leave.
Moyo also clashed with the committee on the technical structure of the Sables where he wanted a set-up that consisted of the head of technical (Godwin “Jaws” Murambiwa), head coach and two assistant coaches with one in charge of the backline while the other in charge of the forwards.
But the rest of the committee felt this was not feasible – especially on the finance side of the idea.
Moyo has since been replaced by former Old Hararians’ chairman, Bongai Zamchiya, who went on to name the Sables’ technical team at a press conference at the Union offices yesterday.
However, Zamchiya – who was not part of the committee – played down the issue of Moyo’s resignation saying the Harare businessman had left to focus on his businesses.
“He (Moyo) resigned on personal business as he wants to focus on his businesses,” said Zamchiya after naming the incomplete Sables technical team.
As largely expected, Brandan Dawson was retained as the Sables coach.
The Sables and Under-20 are yet to name their managers while former ZRU president Bruce Hobson has retained his position as the Cheetahs’ manager, with the women’s committee expected to name their technical team on March 1.
Dawson was granted a four-year contract that has qualification for the 2015 England World Cup as his primary goal while Cyprian “Supa” Mandenge bounces back as the assistant coach.
The duo were rewarded for doing the sport proud by winning the Africa Cup 1B tournament, winning the Victoria Cup Tri-Nations tournament, soaring to their all-time high on the International Rugby Board World Rankings and being named the Team-of-the-Year.
However, there are doubts over the return of Noddy Kanyangara as the team manager given his sour relations with the players. There are also fears that Kanyangara might be overwhelmed by his duties as he is also the National Rugby League president and sits on the Sables committee. This is the same committee that is responsible for selecting the technical team.
In the Under-20 team, former Sables’ coach Brighton Chivandire, was retained to lead the side in their quest for glory at the Junior World Rugby Trophy having won the Junior Africa Cup for the third consecutive time last year. The lanky coach will be assisted by another former Sables’ coach Godwin “Jaws” Murambiwa who has also been retained as the schools’ Under-18 XVs coach with Andy Ferreira continuing as the schools’ Under-18 Sevens coach.
Having received a vote of confidence from the ZRU to continue as the Sables coach, Dawson said his primary goal would be to remain in Group 1A of the Africa Cup that serves as the World Cup Qualifying group.
“My number one priority would be to qualify for the World Cup in 2015 as we all know the qualifiers start in 2013 (next year) but we would have to start preparations for this season as soon as we can,” said Dawson.
