HARTSFIELD Rugby Grounds is set to come alive again this Saturday as the history making Zimbabwe’s senior men’s national rugby team bring their Africa Cup triumph celebrations to Bulawayo.

The Sables won the Africa Cup in July, ending a three-decade long wait for a World Cup appearance and some members of the team are scheduled for a meet and greet with fans and various rugby stakeholders from 12pm.

Their visit coincides with the biggest game of the 2025 Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board (BMRFB) Archer Clothing Rugby League, the derby final pitting rivals Old Miltonians (OMs) and Matabeleland Warriors.

OMs, who booked their spot in the final following a 27-13 win over Mahogany Bulls are looking to defend the title while Warriors, who beat Western Suburbs Panthers 36-5 in their semi-final encounter are hoping to reclaim the title they lost in a thrilling final last year.

The defending champions go into the final as the only side yet to taste defeat while Warriors lost once, beaten 39-35 by their rivals in the first leg of this year’s derby. The second leg ended as a thrilling 28-28 draw which could have gone either way.

The final is scheduled to start at 3pm. – @brandon_malvin
