President Emmerson Mnangagwa has availed US$100 000 to the Zimbabwe rugby national team, the Sables, as part of incentives in their quest to qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Addressing a Zimbabwe Rugby Union delegation at State House in Harare this evening, President Mnangagwa said the country is behind the Sables.

“Be assured that the nation is supporting you. The Government will continue to support you and I, your President, am confident in your dedication and sporting abilities.

“As you embark on your journey to qualify for the World Cup, may your excursions yield great success for our country. Go out there and make Zimbabwe proud. We wish you all the best of luck.

“Go, go, Zimbabwe. Go team Zimbabwe. I have prepared monetary tokens to assist you in your preparations,” said President Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwe are the defending champions of the Africa Cup.

On Sunday, the Sables will face Kenya in one of the two semi-finals.

If Zimbabwe proceeds to the finals of the Africa Cup, they will face either Algeria or Namibia.

The winner of the final will qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup to be held in Australia.
