Sables out for Brazil upset in Cape Town

Ricky Zililo, Senior Sports Reporter
ZIMBABWE senior men’s rugby team coach Brendan Dawson is confident the Sables can upset Brazil in the semi-finals of World Rugby’s Quadrangular Series in Cape Town tomorrow.

Dawson said they had been working on the players’ shortcomings, which caused a 7-78 hammering by Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last Saturday.

“I was happy with what happened at Cheetahs. It wasn’t a result driven game, but we went out there to practice a lot of our tactics and we want to achieve a lot of that against the Brazilians. Not everything went our way, we did struggle in certain areas, which is great because we can work on a lot on them and be ready for the game against Brazil

“The guys have trained hard. It’s going to be a big contest. They are confident that they will go out there and correct their performances by taking the game to the Brazilians,” said Dawson.
Sables captain Hilton Mudariki shared his coach’s sentiments, pointing out that the warm-up match against the

Cheetahs came in handy to prepare them for the Brazil clash.

“We knew that the Cheetahs were going to be tough opposition because they’ve been together for a while; they are currently at the end of their pre-season going into a tournament. We knew they were going to come hard at us from set pieces.

“We’ve watched the video of that game and seen mistakes we made which we need to correct,” said Mudariki.
He revealed that is teammates have been pushing for positions in the starting team, making the coaches’ job tough in terms of selection. — @ZililoR
