The mission leader Mr Dumelang Saleshado, who is also a Member of Parliament in Botswana, was briefed by ZUJ secretary general Foster Dongozi in a closed door meeting.
After the meeting, Mr Saleshado said he could not disclose to the Press what they had discussed.
“We have met but we will issue a statement after concluding our assessment,” he said.
Dongozi said they briefed the mission on issues to do with safety of journalists which was of serious concern.
“We put across to them that the attacks and harassment against journalists and media workers had reached epidemic levels and that the union was deeply concerned with the continued harassment by political parties.
“We also referred them to media reports about the harassment and intolerant language used by politicians to journalists and media workers,” he said.
There has been continued onslaught of journalists by the MDC-T with the latest incident involving the party’s secretary general Mr Tendai Biti who shouted unprintable words at ZiFM radio journalist Garikai Fadzi.
The verbal assault on Fadzi followed the harrassment of Chronicle reporter Mashudu Netsianda who had his recordings deleted and notebook confiscated by Mr Tsvangirai’s aides and the severe assault visited on Zimbabwe Independent journalist Herbert Moyo by MDC-T activists as he covered a demonstration at Harvest House.
