SADC unanimously endorse Chief Charumbira’s PAP candidacy

The Southern Region caucus has unanimously endorsed the candidature of Chief Fortune Charumbira for the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) presidency, paving way for his election on Wednesday.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Parliament of Zimbabwe said: “The Southern Region caucus has unanimously endorsed the candidature of Chief Senator Fortune Zephania Charumbira by a landslide victory as a sole candidate for the region, paving the way for his election tomorrow (Wednesday).”

PAP is presently meeting in Midrand, South Africa.

Elections were aborted last year after the Southern Caucus argued the presidency had to be rotated, a position that the East and West Caucuses objected.

However, the African Union (AU) later confirmed the Southern Caucus’ position.
