Safeguard Zim’s uhuru, youths implored

the country’s independence saying it came after a protracted struggle.
Cde Muzenda was speaking after receiving a motorised wheelchair from Vice President John Nkomo in Harare yesterday.
The wheelchair was sourced by DTZ-Ozgeo, a joint venture mining company between Zimbabwe and Russia as part of the firm’s social responsibility programme.
She said: “It is only a few days before the nation celebrates the good works of Cde Joshua Nkomo who died 12 years ago and with the challenges we faced during the liberation struggle, it is important for Zimbabweans especially youths to value independence.
“They (youths) need guidance for them to know the history of the country. These men and women did a great job.”
Cde Muzenda chronicled the challenges she faced while her late husband was away leading the war.
VP Nkomo, who was accompanied by Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zvishavane-Runde Member of Parliament Cde Larry Mavhima and Senator for Mwenezi-Chivi Cde Josaya Hungwe, expressed the need for various stakeholders in the country to embark on social responsibility programmes.
“These are our seniors and we have to make sure they live comfortably. We value the contribution of this joint venture and we hope many will continue to do so,” he said.
Minister Mnangagwa added: “This is an excellent gift and as statesmen we appreciate your efforts in ensuring that the people who liberated the country are taken care of.”
