Salvation Army transfers commander

The Salvation Army International Headquarters in London declined comment on the transfer referring all questions to the Harare office.
“There is nothing we can tell you. You have to get that information from Harare,” said an official in London.
The Harare office also declined to comment on the issue.
“The one responsible is the second in charge and he comes after 1.30pm. Even the Commissioner (Chigariro) is going to be here. You can get a comment and a Press release,” a Colonel Kasi said.
However, sources in the church confirmed that Comm Chigariro had been reassigned to Kenya.
“She has been reassigned to Kenya and this is with effect from January 2013,” the source who cannot be named said.
In a statement yesterday, the Salvation Army said since opening in 1923 it has been committed to the people of Chiweshe.
“The commitment is as strong today as ever and the army intends to continue serving the people through Howard Hospital for many years to come,” the unsigned statement read.
As part of that commitment, it said the church’s international health services co-ordinator, Dr Eirwen Pallant, completed a clinical assessment of Howard Hospital on September 20.
In the assessment, Dr Pallant said the hospital continued to be functional and served the people and more than 200 babies were born last month and maternal and child health services were operating normally.
“More than 4 000 outpatients have been treated in the past four weeks, there have been 1 756 inpatient beds nights and there have been more than 100 operations in the theatre,” the statement said.
The church said it has a three-person finance team in the country to ensure proper allocation and reporting on any donations that may have come to Howard Hospital over the past years.
“The Salvation Army consistently maintains strong financial systems that provide full accountability for all donated funds,” the statement further read.
