Samba night on cards

“There will be a Samba night. Only samba dance that night. Strictly no under 18! Samba dance is for adults, ask those who have been to Brazil. It is explosive.

“We will also have a reggae night on the other day where Luciano will be the main attraction. There will be several other activities through and through. But samba will be the main attraction,’’ said ZTA chief executive Karikoga Kaseke on Monday.

Samba is a South American sexually suggestive dance, popularised by Brazil.
Mr Kaseke also said the inaugural Zimbabwe International Carnival slated for May 21- 25 2013 had attracted overwhelming international interest, with 12 countries having already confirmed their participation.

A carnival is a period of public revelry, partying and festivities for a common purpose at a regular time each year. The merrymaking and feasting usually bring people together.
Carnivals are a new concept being used by ZTA to develop, promote and market the country’s tourist attractions, as well as unite people from different spheres of life.

Addressing stakeholders at the launch of carnival preparatory workshop on Monday, Mr Kaseke said 12 countries, among them Brazil and Seychelles, had confirmed their participation.

“This workshop is meant to prepare for the carnival. We have brought in Brazilian experts because Brazil started this in 1840. They are way ahead of us in terms of carnivals. In our case the carnival is coinciding with Africa Day and especially that our partying and merrymaking coincided with the African Union golden jubilee,’’ said Mr Kaseke.
He said the carnival would be held under the theme, “Celebrating our Diversity”.

“This event will also provide perfect opportunity to unify our people, rekindle the spirit of brotherhood among participating
nations, hence the theme ‘Celebrating Our Diversity’.

“This implies the diversity in many forms, be it cultural, political and socio-economic diversity.
“The event will also be a vehicle to exhibit the creativity of our designers and the resourcefulness of our people across the cultural divide,’’ said Mr Kaseke.
