adminSamsung may have a new strategy for toppling the iPhone this year: coming out first. The Korean smartphone giant is reportedly looking to launch its upcoming Galaxy Note 5 phablet in August, which would give it up to a month’s lead on the iPhone’s typical September release window.
Reports of the Note 5’s early launch date come by way of The Wall Street Journal. Samsung’s Galaxy Note devices are typically unveiled at IFA in Berlin every September and released in October, so this rumoured release date would mark a significant bump forward.
While the smaller Galaxy S series is largely considered the iPhone’s biggest rival, it makes sense for Samsung to go head-to-head with Apple with its phablet-sized Note. After all, Apple now owns a chunk of the big-phone market with the iPhone 6 Plus, a device that’s rumoured to get a “6S” upgrade come September.
According to rumours, the Note 5 could be a notable step up from the Note 4, a phone we loved for its gorgeous quad-HD display and sharp 16-MP camera.
