VICE President Kembo Mohadi has expressed satisfaction with the digitalised immigration system at the newly commissioned Kasambabezi Border Post, saying the modern facility reflects Government’s commitment to improving service delivery and strengthening border management.
Accompanied by Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe and Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Richard Moyo, the Vice President toured the state-of-the-art clearance hall, which houses the Immigration Department and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra).
Looking visibly impressed by the facility, VP Mohadi took time to engage immigration officials, quizzing them on various aspects of the digitalised border management system, including how travellers are processed, the efficiency of the electronic systems, security features and the capacity of the infrastructure to handle increased traffic.
Officials briefed the Vice President on the operations of the integrated digital platform, explaining how it enables faster processing of travellers, improves the accuracy of records, enhances border security and facilitates seamless movement of people and goods between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The officials also highlighted that the system minimises paperwork, improves accountability and allows for real-time monitoring of border activities, making the port of entry more efficient and responsive to the needs of travellers and businesses.
VP Mohadi’s tour forms part of the official commissioning programme for the Kasambabezi Border Post, a key infrastructure project expected to transform cross-border trade and travel between the two neighbouring countries.
The border post is set to eliminate the long-standing reliance on informal and often dangerous crossings across the Zambezi River, where traders and travellers risked their lives using makeshift boats to transport goods and people.
The digitalised processes implemented at the border post are part of the Second Republic’s broader drive to modernise border infrastructure, improve revenue collection, strengthen national security and promote legitimate cross-border trade while curbing smuggling and other illegal activities.
The commissioning of the border post is also expected to stimulate economic activity in Binga District and surrounding communities by opening up new opportunities for trade, investment and tourism while deepening the long-standing bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Zambia
