PROFESSOR Amos Saurombe, Head of Graduate Studies, Research and Innovation College of Law, has become one of the 10 newly inaugurated members of the South African Young Academy of Science. The strategic objectives of SAYAS are to promote the organisation and its value-adding initiatives, enhance scientific excellence for the country and the continent, influence science policy and translate science for society to promote science awareness.
Saurombe is among 50 other young academics who will contribute to scientific excellence. He’s delighted to be a part of SAYAS.

“I receive this honour with deep gratitude and great humility. This award speaks not just to my highest aspiration but it also speaks to Unisa’s commitment to excellence in research and innovation.

“As a young person, I am at the beginning of my labour in academia. The future looks bright.”
Contribution and work at Unisa

Although SAYAS is a fairly new organisation, Saurombe, along with his colleagues, hopes their efforts will have a positive impact on South Africans in the very near future.
“Through my study of international economic law, I am convinced more than ever that South Africa’s interests are better safeguarded not just by focusing on national interests but on the interests of the region and continent.

“Meeting these challenges will require the same vision,
hard work and persistence of those who already make up this prestigious group of top achievers.”
Forming a partnership with eight universities in South Africa has enabled SAYAS to recruit highly skilled individuals into its ranks.
From a Unisa perspective, Saurombe believes his affiliation will assist his work and research efforts.
“I hope my membership will improve the research quality and relevance of Unisa in a fast-changing world.
“I want to be part of a university that continuously seeks ways to increase the value of our contribution to the knowledge economy.”
