SAVE Africa Foundation is hosting a campaign at Luveve Youth Centre in Bulawayo on Saturday that is set to educate the public on the dangers of gender-based violence.
The co-founder of the organisation, Nombulelo Dube said their role is in joining other stakeholders in ending gender based violence.
“We are bent on raising awareness on sexual and gender based violence which has had drastic effects on our society and led to a number of deaths.
“Gender-based violence not only affects the victims but it also has drastic effects on families,” she said.Dube highlighted that the cases of gender based violence continue escalating and there is a need for stakeholders to participate in ending this plague.
“Cases of gender-based violence continue escalating and this is what motivated us to have this campaign so that we can educate the public on this challenge and come up with solutions.
“We have also noted that there are a number of men that are affected by this scourge and there is a need to educate them on the importance of reporting these cases,” she said.
She stated that there are a number of activities that they have that are lined up for the event.
“There are a number of activities that we will be having and these include presentations from mental health advocates, psychologists and therapists. We will also have a play and a poetry session,” she said.
She added that their goal is to encourage communities to desist from turning a blind eye on victims.
“We want to educate the public and teach them about the importance of helping victims in dealing with this plight because a number of communities have normalised gender-based violence,” she said.
