THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning of scattered thunderstorms expected across most districts of the country.
The department indicated that there were chances of localised downpours in the eastern and northern regions through to next Wednesday.
As the forecast period comes to a close, significantly warmer temperatures and less rainfall activity are expected, especially in the southern districts.
This past week has seen widespread rainfall, with many areas experiencing totals exceeding 25 mm.
Notably, scattered thunderstorms with localised downpours affected the extreme northern and western parts of the country during this time.
Rainfall amounts from Thursday, January 15, to Tuesday, January 20, reached impressive totals, including 95 mm in Odzi/Mutare, 55 mm in Plumtree, and 49 mm in both Beitbridge and Victoria Falls. Other significant measurements included 48 mm in Mutasa/Rusape, 47 mm in Kariba, 46 mm in Goetz/Bulawayo, and 45 mm in Nyanga/Kwekwe.
In the broader context, the 2025/26 rainfall season has been underway since October 1 and will continue.
Comparatively, the accumulated precipitation for October-November-December (OND) 2025 is quite similar to that of OND 2020.
Both seasons demonstrate a consistent pattern, with the lowest rainfall recorded in the extreme south while the eastern highlands garnered the highest accumulation.
