In an interview last Friday during the unveiling of an AVM 68-seater bus that was bought by parents at Maranatha Seventh-Day Adventist High School, Senator Ncube said the good relations between parents and the school made it possible for them to buy the vehicle.
“This is a good effort between the school, the parents and the church. All schools should emulate the example set by this school. Good relations between these stakeholders always result in positive development,” said Senator Ncube.
The director of education at the SDA’s West Zimbabwe Conference Pastor Gilbert Dube also commended the Maranatha High School leadership and parents for having a unity of purpose towards developing the school.
“As a conference, we are very happy about the developments at this school. This is a young school but it has achieved a lot in terms of academic performance, infrastructural development and now the acquisition of vehicles. It shows that the leadership has direction and that the school is a real model of our vision as a conference,” said Pastor Dube.
The school head Mr Zibusiso Lunga said the 68-seater bus was bought from AVM company in Harare at a cost of $112 125. He said the parents made contributions of $50 per child towards the purchase of the vehicle.
“We are gathered here to celebrate the purchase of this vehicle. We thank the parents and the Government for approving the payment of these funds. This bus will make operations for the school easier in educational trips, sporting activities and other functions where our pupils would need to participate,” said Mr Lunga.
“The School Development Committee chairperson Mrs Dumazile Khabo paid tribute to parents for contributing towards the purchase of the bus.
“We are very excited that we have managed to buy a bus. We commend the commitment by parents who worked so well with the school. This vehicle will surely improve the operations of the school,” she said.
The headboy, Dalubuhle Sifani, also commended parents and the school for working together. He said as pupils they felt challenged by the gesture.
The head girl, Kimberly Bafana, expressed excitement about the developments at her school and paid tribute to the school head, Mr Lunga.
The colourful event was also attended by the local Member of Parliament Mr Seiso Moyo, Bulawayo deputy education director Mr Emmanuel Mugomba, SDA education country director Pastor Robson Mazibiza, heads from sister schools, parents and pupils.
