THE Powersales and Dairibord Schools Rugby Festivals will kick start the 2015 schools rugby calendar next month and early May. According to minutes of the Zimbabwe Schools Rugby Committee held in Harare last Sunday, as has been the norm over the years, the Powersales Rugby Festival at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in Bulawayo is the first pre-season event and has been slated for 3 and 4 April with Christian Brothers College as the organisers. The tournament has over the years attracted schools from South Africa and Botswana.
Prince Edward High School in Harare is expected to be abuzz with rugby action when the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival takes place at the school from 3 to 10 May. Formerly known as the Cottco Festival, the rugby fiesta is considered the biggest in the whole world in terms of the number of teams participating. It has been attended by the best rugby playing schools in the country as well as teams from Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
Provincial trials will take place on 16 May, followed by national trials the following week where national age groups are going to be selected to represent the country at the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks in South Africa in June and July.
A sevens rugby tournament will be staged at Eaglesvale High School in Harare on 25 May.
