CHAMPIONS Scotland and giants CAPS United are set to become the first teams to play at the refurbished National Sports Stadium in a Castle Lager Premiership match set for May 31.

The Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture announced that the stadium, which had been closed for close to five years for extensive renovation works, will host an operational test match as part of ongoing processes before the commissioning of the facility.

“The operational test match is intended to assess stadium systems, spectator flow, safety protocols, seating arrangements, pitch standards and overall operational readiness of the facility ahead of full-scale international and local sporting activities,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Nicholas Moyo.

“Members of the public are encouraged to come in their numbers and witness this historic moment as the giant National Sports Stadium prepares to reclaim its place as the home of Zimbabwean football and international sporting excellence.

“The renovated facility now boasts upgraded bucket seats, modernised amenities, improved playing surfaces and enhanced spectator experience in line with international standards.

“Let us unite in celebrating this important milestone in the revival of Zimbabwean sports infrastructure,” Moyo said.
